Florida man fires random shots into traffic and wrecks his truck
Police officers in St. Johns County, Florida had their hands full while chasing down a man in a red truck. They received numerous calls about a red truck using a firearm in traffic on I-95 southbound.
They attempted to pull the truck over, but the suspect refused to stop. The driver pointed the gun at officers and led a brief chase before wrecking around mile marker 314.
The man hit the back of another car, but none of the people inside were injured. Still, the interstate was closed to traffic for hours.
A K-9 officer engaged the suspect as officers extracted him from the truck. He has been identified as 62-year-old Samuel O’Neal Gardner. Gardner was airlifted to a local trauma center.
He was charged with aggravated fleeing, three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
According to Action News Jax, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol want your help with the ongoing investigation. They want to determine if Gardner was firing shots at cars or just into the air.
