It’s time to see what life is like with a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. See how this plug-in hybrid SUV held up after two years of ownership. While the Jeep provided a few good times, it mostly caused expensive headaches.

The worst part about owning a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

The team at Cars.com was initially excited to get a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe as a long-term test vehicle. However, after two years, the team celebrated finally being able to get rid of it.

That sounds harsh, but they’re car critics, and providing honest feedback is part of the job. Despite owning the hybrid SUV for two years, they only put 14,000 miles on it. That’s a bit low as the average driver puts around 15,000 miles on their car each year.

However, it’s not that they didn’t want to drive it, they just couldn’t. The Jeep spent months at dealerships for repairs due to recalls. One fire-related recall even had a delayed fix. It needed $7,000 in repairs aside from the recalls.

They took it off-roading once and then it was out of commission for five months. When they got it back, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe still had broken suspension components.

It also fell below its estimated 23 MPG rating. The team was getting about 21 mpg instead despite plugging it in to charge. Due to the fire-related recall, they were told to leave the battery drained for months.

However, they did enjoy a few things. For example, the interior is plush, comfortable, and durable. Plus, the advanced tech is impressive. However, it spent too much time needing to be fixed to be really enjoyed.
