Williamsport, PA man on magic mushrooms slaps paramedic across the face while being loaded into ambulance
In late January, Williamsport, Pennsylvania police got an unusual call. The officers arrived at a home after a man’s girlfriend reached out for help. She said her partner had taken magic mushrooms and was having a bad trip. Police ended up calling for an ambulance.
According to various sources, including the PAB Counseling and Psychedelic Support sites, a “low” dose of psilocybin mushrooms is about a gram. Users might take between two and three grams for a more “intense” experience. Higher doses tend to be ill-advised.
A formal complaint says the man took about three grams, NorthcentralPA.com said.
When they arrived, the girlfriend handed police a mason jar full of magic mushrooms. The man yelled expletives at the responders, including EMS when they entered the scene. The suspect didn’t know where he was or that it was the year 2025, an officer reported.
While attempting to strap the man to a stretcher and load him into the ambulance, a Susquehanna Regional EMS paramedic got a surprise injury: a slap to the face.
At the hospital, staff restrained and sedated the man.
After all was said and done, police arrested the Pennsylvania man over his behavior while under the assumed influence of magic mushrooms, although it’s possible other factors were at play. Charges include aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment. As of February 6, he was detained at Lycoming County Prison with a $25K bail.
