Weak sales lead to an overstock of Nissan SUVs and trucks
There’s trouble brewing for Nissan SUVs and trucks. For some reason, these vehicles aren’t selling as well as expected. As a result, an overstock of favorite models like the Nissan Rogue and Nissan Frontier are piling up.
Nissan SUVs and trucks face a massive overstock
It might be the right time to score deals on Nissan SUVs and trucks. Due to a lack of sales, production of popular models like the Nissan Rogue and Nissan Frontier is being cut.
Nissan is working to turn things around as dealerships become desperate. Dealership profitability is at its lowest level in about 15 years. Roughly 38% of Nissan dealerships in the United States are losing money.
Production for the Nissan Rogue and Frontier has been cut by 40,000 units. This is a bit surprising as the Rogue accounted for 31% of the brand’s sales in the first half of 2024. The Frontier accounted for 40% of sales.
This has been an ongoing problem. In December, 2023, Nissan had a 106 day supply of vehicles. That’s a tremendous amount compared to the average of 70 days.
Recently, supply dropped to 83 days as the national average increased to 81. Tesla and Chevrolet also face an oversupply of vehicles. However, the Rogue still has an 89 day supply of SUVs and the Frontier has an 111 day supply.

Nissan cut US production by 6.0% in the first quarter of the year. There were also manufacturing pauses in January through March.
The Rouge is one of the Nissan SUVs built in the plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. The Frontier is built in Canton, Mississippi.
The production facilities are still open at this time, but are operating at reduced levels. For example, the Rogue plant is operating four days a week instead of five.
Perhaps an end-of-year sales push will help numbers improve by the end of the year.
