It’s after dark. A Ring home security camera films a quiet Corona, California front yard with two cars parked outside. A torch glows, lit by someone standing on the passenger side of a small sedan sitting at an angle. Suddenly, a large “whoosh” followed by a big “bang.” The explosion quickly swells up around the car. After huge flames wrap the sedan, the suspect realizes that they’re on fire, too.

We’re sure the arsonist wasn’t planning on engulfing himself in flames

With their head and even their shoes ablaze, the suspect jumps the wall in front of the home and runs down the street, out of the camera’s view.

The fire completely destroyed the car. The force of the initial explosion shattered a window in the house.

The family has no idea why the arsonist set their car on fire

The homeowner, who chose to remain anonymous out of fear, told Local12 that she’s lived in the neighborhood for 25 years. “I’m scared to be in my house…I’ve never had anything happen like this.”

“This person literally tried to kill us,” she said. “Why?”

The crime happened sometime last week. The Corona Fire Department released the Ring camera footage of the suspect setting the fire and running away covered in flames. At the time, authorities didn’t know who committed the act.
