On the evening of April 10, 45-year-old Annamae Cabalsa Martinex of Sigurd, Utah, hit six-figure speeds. The state trooper who caught her said he’d never had to drive as fast as he did that evening to catch up to her.

“I reached a speed of 130 mph in an attempt to catch the vehicle,” the trooper wrote in the report, according to KSL.

The trooper’s affidavit read that when he’d caught up to her, Martinez slowed down to 95 mph. When the trooper turned on his lights and siren to signal for her to pull over, she put the pedal to the metal. Within seconds, she was driving between 120 and 130 mph.

That’s when the trooper called for backup

Now engaged in a high-speed pursuit with Martinez, the trooper called for backup. Troopers ahead tried to lay down spike strips to blow her tires, without success. Officers laid down a second strip that pops her tires.

“The vehicle’s left front tire lost air and pulled to the right side of the road and stopped. Traffic was shut down, and a high-risk stop was performed with multiple troopers,” continued the affidavit.

Martinez stopped, but refused to cooperate with troopers, ordering her to get out of the car.

“The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle failed to obey any commands to exit the vehicle or roll down the window. I tried multiple times to get Martinez to roll down a window or exit the vehicle while yelling as loud as I could. A PA speaker was also used to try and get Martinez to obey our commands, which she refused,” wrote the trooper.

As it turns out, she was on the phone with AAA

She refused to get out, insisting on making sure her tires could be fixed. Martinez sat in the car, seemingly unfazed by the lights and sirens of multiple troopers, for about 40 minutes.

“Martinez called AAA to get her tire fixed,” the trooper wrote. The only way they found out was due to a representative of the roadside assistance company. They’d transferred the call to the police, who informed a trooper at the scene.

Once troopers saw her get out of the car, she was quickly apprehended and brought to jail.

“I was able to talk Martinez into exiting the vehicle. Martinez was placed under arrest and transported to the Emery County Jail,” concluded the affidavit.
