Trump says he wants to send 3 Tesla vandals to prison in El Salvador
Just about every news outlet ever is covering the domestic war against Elon Musk. Ever since his Nazi-esque gesture at Trump’s inauguration and the slashing of over 62,000 federal jobs (of which, are largely agencies that restrict his empire—couldn’t have predicted that one), citizens across the nation are protesting his role in the government. And, you know, him as a person.
At first, people were vandalizing privately owned Teslas, namely Cybertrucks. Now, protestors have realized that attacking vehicles Musk already profited from wasn’t the answer. So, protestors began targeting, damaging, throwing Molotovs at, and even spray painting swastikas on unsold Teslas at dealerships.
Musk doesn’t profit from EVs that aren’t sold, right? And it’s been working—stock prices have dropped by 30% and sales of his EVs have dropped by almost half in the first quarter of the year.
Obviously, Trump isn’t going to stand for people harming his bestie’s company. When asked how he would handle dealership vandals, Trump threatened to charge them with domestic terrorism for “harming a great American company.”
Trump took to social media once again
We all remember his tendency to put his foot in his mouth on Twitter. AXIOS reported that authorities caught three vandals: one from Oregon, one in Colorado, and another in South Carolina. Trump posted on Truth that he wanted to send the three “sick terrorist thugs” to the CECOT prison in El Salvador.
The three had quite the track records. Authorities traced each suspect to Molotov attacks on unsold Teslas, Supercharging stations, or storefronts.
Shortly after he published the initial post, he followed it up with another one—characteristically in all CAPS—that read, “WE WANT VIOLENT CRIMINALS OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!”
Officials have not released any information about their deportation to the prison—one heavily criticized by Human Rights Watch for its horrific conditions—but the possibility is alarming. Especially considering that those who stormed the capital faced less severe penalties (or reactions) than the Tesla vandals.
Readers asked an important question about due process
Jalopnik‘s readers of the same story were stunned at the lack of due process.
“And just like that, US citizens are no longer guaranteed due process, let alone relying on a court to intervene in their illegal deportation without any actual conviction,” wrote a reader. “These are dark times indeed.”
Another rewrote Trump’s second Truth post with their own.
“WE WANT CONVICTED FELONS OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE,” they wrote.
Someone else threw a rock at the intelligence of both Musk and Trump.
“Bet any amount of money that Trump or Space Karen Nazi couldn’t find El Salvador on a map with ten guesses,” they wrote.
