3 recent Toyota vehicles prove why it’s no longer the most reliable automaker
Toyota makes some of the best cars and trucks to buy. However, Subaru recently overtook it in terms of reliability. Of course, this doesn’t mean that people who buy Toyota vehicles will have bad experiences; it just means that a few of its recent models haven’t been the best. Of course, Toyota is still near the top of the list for car brand reliability. Sadly, some of the decline comes from transmission problems and various car recalls.
The 2022 to 2023 Toyota Tundra isn’t among the brand’s best vehicles
Toyota still makes some of the best cars and trucks to buy. However, some of the recent Tundra models haven’t been the best. Specifically, the 2022 to 2023 versions of the truck have had reliability issues, leading to car recalls. Notably, these Tundra trucks have had engine issues such as knocking, loss of power, and failure to start. Due to the recall, auto mechanics at dealerships fixed the problem for free, but it’s still a stain on Toyota’s legacy.
Sadly, there are also reports of engine issues in the 2024 Toyota Tundra. Notably, metal debris from the deteriorated V6 engines has been found in the oil, which has, in some cases, caused engine failure. Still, these Totota vehicles have shown improvement from the 2022 and 2023 models. J.D. Power gave those “average” scores for quality and reliability, but the 2024 model has a “great” score.
The Toyota Tacoma has transmission problems
Transmission problems are a significant reason any car brand could have issues with reliability. Sadly, this is the case for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. There aren’t any car recalls for it as there have been for other Toyota vehicles, but there is a Technical Service Bulletin. Basically, the automaker has had to replace some of the eight-speed transmissions in this new model, which has caused its reputation to suffer.
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma model also has transmission problems. Several owners have reported slipping gears, leaks, and general rough gear shifts. Still, the Tacoma is one of the best trucks to buy overall.
The Lexus LX also has issues
Of course, Toyota owns Lexus, and both automakers have some of the best cars to buy. However, some recent Lexus LX models haven’t been the best in terms of reliability. Like with the Toyota Tacoma, some units of the 2022 to 2023 Lexus LX have engine problems. There is a significant car recall for this problem, which can lead to engine knocking, issues starting, etc. Sadly, the 2024 model happens to have a recall for transmission problems.
Despite this, Toyota vehicles remain some of the best on the market. All automakers go through rough patches, and Toyota and Lexus aren’t exempt.
