Many Toyota Tacoma owners are happy with their trucks. However, going for models with one faulty feature can quickly provide expensive headaches. Check what option might be better to avoid.

Toyota Tacoma owners warn others about leaky sunroofs

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma launches the fourth generation of the popular truck. However, as it comes with a variety of new features, it might come with new problems as well.

For example, multiple Toyota Tacoma owners are warning other drivers to avoid getting models with the sunroof because it’s prone to leaking.

According to Torque News, one owner took his Tacoma in for service after the panoramic sunroof started leaking.

The problem seems to be related to the seal. Ideally, that should be an easy fix, but the design adds a few complications.

To access the seal, you have to remove the headliner and pull the entire sunroof out. Doing so could take about two full days and cost about $1,850 to repair.

Other drivers have been facing a similar issue and some even received botched repairs. Instead of fully removing the sunroof, dealerships have been caught putting tape over the seal. This fix is only temporary.

Other issues that could lead to a leaking Tacoma sunroof include clogged drain tubes. There are drain tubes at each corner of the sunroof that should channel water away from the vehicle, but clogs may cause water to trickle inside the cab.

Be sure to regularly clean the seal to prevent damage. The seal around the glass pane could become damaged or worn, allowing water to leak in.

While the repair should be covered under the warranty, there are a few steps you can take to protect the seal for preventive care.

You can wash the seal with a gentle cleaner on a regular basis. Also, you can apply a rubber protectant or weatherstrip conditioner to keep the seals soft and flexible.
