Toyota makes some of the best new cars on the market. However, the automaker has had a rough go of things lately. Notably, its sales have been down for the last few months. Of course, a small part of this comes from the Toyota Mirai, the automaker’s worst-selling car, which is only available in California. As many know, there has even been a class action suit over this the Mirai. Now, Toyota has a plan to make its hydrogen-powered vehicle more appealing.
Toyota has a plan to fix its hydrogen-powered car
Toyota first introduced its hydrogen-powered car in 2014. It’s still on the market but hasn’t caught on. According to Good Car Bad Car, 2,737 people bought the car in 2023, but sales were significantly lower in 2024. However, the car is only sold in California as the state has a comparative abundance of hydrogen chargers.
Of course, there are problems with the Toyota Mirai. Notably, charging is a massive issue for owners. For starters, some drivers have reported driving long distances to find stations. Additionally, as with EV chargers, there are situations where they may be nonfunctional. As mentioned, there was recently a class action suit from owners who felt that Toyota misled them about the availability of hydrogen chargers.
Now, Toyota has unveiled hydrogen cartridges that would act as charge packs. Of course, people with the Toyota Mirai could use them to boost their cars. However, it also works in other areas, such as specific households. Toyota debuted the new devices during the Japan Mobility Show Bizweek 2024. It has been reported that the Toyota hydrogen cartridges can add about 300 miles of range. Of course, they are also rechargeable. However, there is no word on when they will be released.
