[Video] Suspect totals stolen Porsche during police chase, nabs a Nissan, gets caught
There are police chases, then there are police chases. A very determined 23-year-old Australian driver spent an entire day evading the police, at speeds up to 120 mph. He managed to total a stolen Porsche and Nissan pickup truck before police finally pulled him from the cab of a still-moving vehicle.
It looks like this yellow Porsche convertible was stolen from a home in Mudgeeraba. Then it was used as the getaway car for a series of break-ins, over a month. Finally, police spotted the sports car moving at dangerously high speeds in the middle of the day. So they called in backup and began to chase it.
The maniac of a driver wove in and out of traffic. He even drove, “The wrong way down the highway.” Police chose to call off the chase when things got too dangerous, hoping the driver would slow down without blue lights in his mirror. But he just kept going.
A news helicopter tries to help the police
Channel 7 News had a helicopter in the air. In the footage [embedded below] the reporter aboard can be heard coordinating with the police whenever they lose sight of the Porsche. At one point he tells his producer, “Call the cops and tell the ring us. We are in contact with this thing, but we cannot raise them on the radio.”
As the shocked reporter watched, the Porsche blew a front tire but kept on rocketing down the road. The driver wore all the rubber off and kept cruising on one rim and three wheels. As he continued to push the car along, the force bent the front suspension and finally, the wheel broke off from the strain.
The 23-year-old drove along on three wheels. But corning proved impossible, so he eventually spun out and got stuck. The reporter announced, “He’s lost it on the corner.” He must have thought the hours-long chase was finally over. But he was wrong.
The wild Porsche police chase changes vehicles
When the suspect realized he was stuck in the grass, he leapt from the car and sprinted to a nearby residence. There, he stole a Nissan pickup truck and floored it again.
Police must have caught him quickly and shot out the truck’s tires. Within moments the reporter announces, “His rear tire is completely gone.” But the 23-year-old suspect continued to try and drive the truck. It proved so much slower than the Porsche that police were soon able to surround him.
Even then, the suspect wasn’t willing to give up. He kept driving forward and reversing, as if searching for a way out. So officers opened the door of the still-moving truck and dragged him to the ground. You can see the footage of the wild chase embedded below:
