Texas car thieves park 2 Maseratis and Rolls Royce together at cheap Georgia motel, arrested
If you steal three luxury cars, where do you hide them? If your answer is behind a cheap motel, you might have something in common with these three guys. After swiping a Rolls-Royce Wraith and two Maseratis from Texas, they parked them all in the open—where Georgia cops quickly took notice. What happened next was pure dumb criminal gold.
The worst getaway plan. Ever.
Brookhaven, Georgia police got a tip on January 31: be on the lookout for a stolen Rolls-Royce. That alone would’ve been enough to turn heads, but officers found it casually parked right next to two stolen Maseratis behind a Buford Highway motel.
“Local motels and hotels, they are high crime places in our city unfortunately,” said Sgt. Carlos Nino of Brookhaven Police. So officers started checking the usual sketchy spots. And boom—there they were.
Instead of rushing in, officers decided to stake out the area and wait for the thieves to come back. “They started checking the local motels and that’s how they were able to find them,” Sgt. Nino explained. “It’s just good old police work, really getting out there and doing what officers are supposed to be doing, and obviously a little bit of luck as well.”
Luck? Maybe. But the criminals weren’t exactly making it difficult.
Driving right into handcuffs
After some time, three men strolled back up to the cars like nothing was suspicious. They didn’t seem worried that their $400,000 haul was parked in plain sight. They just hopped in, ready to take off.
Brookhaven officers? They were ready, too.
“What they decided to do was to basically sit back and stake out the area and watch for the drivers to come out and get in those cars,” said Sgt. Nino. “So luckily they did, they came out and at that point officers decided to move in, gave verbal commands. They obeyed and were taken into custody without incident.”
That’s right—no high-speed chase, no dramatic standoff. Just three guys stepping into stolen cars and immediately getting arrested.
Criminals masterminds? Not so much
The suspects, identified as Yves Amakon (31, Snellville, GA), Lester Price Jr. (30, Houston, TX), and Julian Callahan (24, Katy, TX), are now facing theft charges. And the dealership in Texas? They’re getting their cars back.
As for the Brookhaven PD, they’re celebrating a win. “One of the officers in particular, he’s the go-getter type, and the level of professionalism and dedication that all those officers involved showed, it just tells you the quality of officers that we have,” said Sgt. Nino.
Stealing luxury cars takes skill. Hiding them does too. But these guys skipped the second step entirely. Instead of using a chop shop or even a covered garage, they parked their $400K haul out in the open. The result? A textbook police sting and a trip to jail.
