Thieves successfully got away with multiple Ford F-150 Raptor trucks. However, something must have gone wrong because police officers found the trucks abandoned in a ditch. Why did the criminals abandon their loot?

Thieves literally ditch stolen Ford F-150 Raptor models

Michigan has been a successful place for thieves to get away with big trucks straight from the factories. For years, the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 have been successfully targeted.

Criminals have gotten away with millions of dollars worth of beastly trucks and Jeep SUVs. However, a recent heist must have gone wrong.

Over the weekend, thieves got away with about $400,000 worth of Raptor models. They were taken from the Ford Rogue Production Facility in Dearborn.

But for some reason, the trucks were quickly abandoned. Two models were in a small ditch nearby, and the rest were scattered around a huge grass lot. Some of the trucks were even slammed into trees before the drivers bailed.

This heist was smaller than usual. Typically, thieves try to get away with $1 million or more worth of trucks. In 2023, heists caused Ford to lose about $6 million.

One attempted plot to get away with F-150 Raptor trucks went wrong when the large gas guzzlers got too thirsty. The trucks were abandoned near gas stations without any fuel left.

But this time, the trucks didn’t go far enough to run out of fuel. Also, the ditch is too small for the trucks to get stuck. Only the models that hit trees are inoperative. Dearborn Police officers are investigating the crime. They may have additional details to provide soon.

The 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor has an MSRP of $78,540. It has a 3.5-liter V6 engine that cranks out 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mpg in about 5.8 seconds.

Typically thieves have no trouble getting away in these fast trucks and then flipping them or parting them out for cash.
