Returning a rental SUV can take about 10 to 20 minutes. Plus, you might need a ride during the process. It’s time-consuming, but they must be returned by law. A Texas woman is behind bars after extending a one-day rental for over a month because she was ‘busy’.

Texas woman keeps rental SUV because she was ‘too busy’ to return it

33-year-old Mogan A. Jewell is facing charges after returning an SUV for one day and never returning it. She rented a Dodge Durango on October 20 in Dallas, Texas, then went on the lamb.

The woman drove across the country and was caught in Spokane Washington. Authorities noticed that the SUV had been stolen with the help of an automated license plate reader.

Jewell was stopped after the license plate was confirmed. According to The News Tribune, she told police that she became too busy to return it.

Deputies caught her around 6:45 am, on December 5, 46 days after she was supposed to return the SUV. Jewell told authorities that she tried to contact the rental company to extend her reservation but couldn’t get in contact with anyone.

However, she acknowledged receiving a warning that the SUV would be reported as stolen if it wasn’t returned. It seems like the rental place tried to give her an out that she didn’t take.

But the plot thickens! Dallas Fort Worth Airport Police Department was informed that the vehicle was recovered and all attempts to contact the rental agency were unsuccessful.

The rental company is pressing charges for failing to return the Dodge Durango as required in the rental agreement.

Jewell was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. She remains in custody at the Spoke County Jail.

The rental Dodge Durango was towed to ensure its safety until the rental agency can make arrangements to recover it.
