I’m no hunting expert, but opening fire on game at a truck stop in broad daylight probably isn’t the best way to do it. A Texas man decided to go for some wild hogs anyways, by opening fire from his pickup truck during broad daylight.

Texas man tries shooting wild hogs at a truck stop

Truck drivers at the Flying J at 1011 Beltway Parkway in Laredo, Texas had to deal with a man opening fire at wild hogs.

Police responded to the scene around noon after receiving multiple reports of shots being fired behind the building. 31-year-old Albert Torres was shooting at wild hogs from his silver pickup truck.

According to CDL Life, Torres claimed that he had permission from the truck stop manager to shoot the animals with his shotgun. He also had a handgun and a THC vape pen in his truck.

Police officers arrested and charged him with discharging a firearm, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. It seems like he could have been charged with disrupting the public and for DWI as well.

But there is no closed season for hunting hogs in Texas. Hunters can go for them at any time. However, you must have a license to hunt, have permission from the landowner, have the ability to legally possess a firearm, and must meet the Texas hunter education requirement.

It’s unclear if Torres met those requirements. Also, the manager at the Flying J probably doesn’t own the land surrounding the building.

I have a feeling that the hogs have probably become a nuisance at the truck stop. They cause chaos all over the state. They probably find food and trash from semi-truck drivers and aggressively intimidate the drivers.

But the animals need to be taken care of in a legal manner.
