Tesla Takedown protest ‘Global Day of Action’ is coming, but what does it mean?
DOGE boss and Tesla CEO Elon Musk isn’t very popular as of late. Musk’s scorched-earth approach to government cost-cutting hasn’t made him many friends. As a result, anti-Musk and Tesla-critical protests are commonplace, with many organizing as part of the “Tesla Takedown” movement. This week, Tesla Takedown is calling for protestors to observe a “Global Day of Action,” and it’s hoping to hit Musk where it hurts: his wallet.
Tesla critics are gathered as part of the Tesla Takedown protest movement, and the ‘Global Day of Action’ is coming
March 29, 2025, is only a handful of days away. It’s a Saturday. It’ll host a solar eclipse. Oh, and it’s the Global Day of Action for the Tesla Takedown (or TeslaTakedown) protest movement. It’s a rallying cry for protestors critical of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his controversial antics. But what does it mean for Tesla owners and protestors alike?
The Action Network lays it out on its website. “Elon Musk is destroying our democracy, and he’s using the fortune he built at Tesla to do it,” the Tesla Takedown site says. Additionally, the website implores would-be protest participants to do the following.
- “Sell your Teslas, dump your stock, join the picket lines.”
- “We’re tanking Tesla’s stock price to stop Musk.”
- “Stopping Musk will help save lives and protect our democracy.”
The narrative on the site only got more ominous from there. “The stakes couldn’t be higher. No one is coming to save us. Not politicians, not the media, not the courts.” Strong words aside, Tesla is hurting. The EV automaker has lost nearly half of its market value in the first quarter of 2025.
And this is far from the first time an anti-Musk group has called for Tesla owners to sell or trade their vehicles. Earlier this year, a student organization in California threatened local Tesla owners with vandalism and “physical damage” should they refuse to dump their Tesla-branded vehicles.
Fortunately, the Action Network site added a prompt regarding violent or destructive demonstrations. “Tesla Takedown is a peaceful protest movement. We oppose violence, vandalism, and destruction of property. This protest is a lawful exercise of our First Amendment right to peaceful assembly.”
