Tesla Cybertruck owner struggles with a massive oil leak

According to Torque News, a Tesla Cybertruck owner was surprised to find a puddle of oil under his electric truck. He was shocked even more by the cost to correct the issue.

Joey Arrowood from Hartland, Michigan put 9,000 miles on his Cybertruck before needing his first major repair. He’s only taken it on light off-roading trips on local dirt roads but recently found oil collecting under the rear motor.

A small rock must have bounced over the belly of the pans and covers, wedging itself between the rear subframe and gearbox.

This may have caused a small hole in the aluminum case, causing it to leak oil. As a result, the entire rear drive unit needs to be replaced for $7,660.55.

The Tesla service center in Clarkson, Michigan refuses to repair the electric truck unless Joey pays them or files an insurance claim.

While the Cybertruck is covered by a New Vehicle Limited Warranty that covers the basic vehicle, supplemental restraint system, body rust, battery, and drive unit, Joey is out of luck. Any damage caused by off-roading isn’t covered by the warranty.

Also, this problem is surprising because electric trucks don’t use oil in traditional ways. They don’t need conventional oil changes.

But oil is used to lubricate the motors as they rotate, so piercing the rear motor housing isn’t good! Joey has only had his truck since June. Now he’s already adding to the list of minor Cybertruck issues that lead to insane repair costs.
