The Buick Enclave is a premium midsize SUV model from the upscale vehicle division of Buick within the collection of General Motors‘ brands. The Enclave is currently the largest vehicle produced by Buick. It is sized above the Buick Encore subcompact SUV, the Buick Encore GX subcompact SUV, and the Buick Envision compact SUV.
Before its release, the Buick Enclave was first featured at the 2006 North American International Auto Show as a concept vehicle built on the GM Lambda platform. Released in 2007 for the 2008 model year, the Buick Enclave replaced a number of outgoing models from the brand, including the Rainier and Rendezvous SUVs and the Terraza minivan.
The Buick Enclave is currently in its second generation, which debuted at the 2017 New York Auto Show. Additionally, it has a Chinese-market variant that debuted in 2019 with similar features but new design elements.
With its upscale trappings, offered as a compromise between economy cars and luxury vehicles, it’s hard to find exact competitors for the Buick Enclave. However, notable models in the same class as the Enclave include the Ford Explorer, the Mazda CX-9, the Subaru Ascent, and the Volvo XC90.
