This suspect PIT maneuvers a police car, gets PIT’d right back [Video]
PIT maneuvers are a means to bring high-speed chases to a (hopefully) safe ending. However, a police car isn’t the only vehicle that can pull off the pursuit-resolving procedure. In this case, a criminal used the maneuver to send a police car spinning. But shortly after, that same police officer pulled an UNO Reverse card and did it right back.
A dash cam video captured an exchange of PIT maneuvers between a suspect and police
If you spent any time playing racing video games like Need For Speed, you’ve seen PIT maneuvers. Hell, watch just about any movie starring Vin Diesel, Nicolas Cage, or Jason Statham, and you’ve seen these police pursuit tactics in action. But the shove-and-spin move is more than big-screen gold. It’s a real procedure used by police to bring pursuits to an end.
Unfortunately for the police, they don’t have a monopoly on the tactic; any car can theoretically pull off the move with the right placement, inputs, and follow-through. A dash cam video captured just that: a criminal using the move on the very people trained to perform PIT maneuvers. A dash cam video, shot from the perspective of a Georgia State Patrol cruiser, shows an officer lining up beside a white Hyundai Sonata.
But the suspect pulled a page from the police officers’ handbook. He dropped back, positioned the nose of the Hyundai, and pushed the cop car into a spin. A moment later, the camera-toting police car comes to a halt facing the treeline beside the road.
However, the officer wasn’t out of the chase. He turned back on the road and took off after the delinquent Hyundai sedan. Although the fidelity isn’t great, viewers can hear the familiar sound of a HEMI V8 under the Dodge Charger’s hood. It doesn’t take long for the camera vehicle to catch up with the suspect.
The second police vehicle on the scene moves over so the camera vehicle can attempt PIT maneuvers of its own. First attempts prove unsuccessful, and the wounded Hyundai keeps moving. However, one of the Dodge Charger police unit’s attempts sticks, and the officer pushes the suspect’s car off the road. The trooper doesn’t stop there, though. He rams the Hyundai into a tree line, bringing the chase to a destructive finish. Check out the video below!
