Texas cops easily stop thieves from stealing Ford F-150 taillights
The University Park Police Department in Texas has had enough as an influx of crime batters the area. Thieves have been targeting Ford F-150 taillights.
Recently, police officers arrested three people connected to targeting 34 victims and $92,000 in stolen property. Then the cops figured out how to get ahead of the thieves and offered the solution to drivers for free.
They have been installing different screws on the taillights that don’t fit the tools that thieves have been using. According to Motor 1, the Police Department has changed the screws on 120 trucks so far.
None of the owners have reported stolen taillights after the free installation. Before installing different screws, roughly half a dozen headlights could be stolen per week.
Simple methods like this often deter thieves as it prolongs the process of stealing something. Oftentimes, taking taillights is a crime of opportunity. They don’t want to dig in their toolboxes to find the correct bit.
F-150 taillights cost about $12,00 to $1,400 each. Then you have to pay a mechanic to replace them. Replacing both can cost roughly $5,600. However, new screws can cost under a dollar.
Because the taillights are in short supply and are easy to steal, thieves can make a killing selling them to repair shops and victims.
