Of all the places to find a stolen luxury SUV, a car museum might be one of the last locations you’d expect. However, that’s precisely where authorities in Mexico City found a missing Jaguar F-PACE. It was prominently displayed for patrons to enjoy, all the while concealing a crime story.

Unfortunately, police seldom recover stolen cars. However, every once in a while, authorities will find a missing car, truck, or SUV where you would least suspect to find one. Like prominently displayed in a car museum in Coyoacán, Mexico.

The vehicle in question is a black Jaguar F-PACE, the British brand’s swan-song SUV. According to a video featuring the Mexican Ministry of Citizen Security (SSC), authorities were following up on a report of stolen goods when they located the black SUV. 

I know what you’re thinking. How does a museum end up with a stolen vehicle? What’s more, how do they display it for patrons to see without consequence? Staff at the museum assert that the portion of the building where authorities found the F-PACE belongs to the Futurautos vehicle dealership. 

Jorge Contreras, a museum spokesperson, told Mexican news outlet Imagen Noticias that the “museum has no commercial ties with Futurautos.” However, the story got murkier when another news outlet examined the SSC’s stolen vehicle records.

News outlet Infobae reported that the agency’s records didn’t list the Jaguar as stolen at all. After the SSC seized the vehicle from the second floor, a legal team took custody of it to continue the investigation. 

Now, Mexican authorities valued the gleaming black SUV at around two million pesos, per Mexico News Daily. As of late, the exchange rate puts that sum at nearly 100,000 USD. That figure is a bit confusing, given the F-PACE pricing structure. For instance, the 2022 Jaguar F-PACE SVR, the supercharged 5.0L V8-powered model, started at around $87,750.

More recent range-toppers, like the 2025 Jaguar F-PACE P400 R-Dynamic S, start at closer to $67,875. However, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that an owner could have picked tens of thousands of dollars in optional extras like four-zone climate control and a Meridian sound system.
