Stellantis’s Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Wagoneer problems just got worse
Y’all know I can’t hide my deep love for Jeep. However, watching Stellantis go can feel like a train wreck in slow motion. It’s Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Wagoneer problems just got much worse due to an engine shortage.
The Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Wagoneer face an engine shortage
Sales for the Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Wagoneer haven’t been exactly hot. In fact, both vehicles are facing massive sales declines.
As Stallantis attempts to turn things around, it gets slammed with more bad news. New tariffs are coming amid an engine shortage.
Vehicle production will be paused at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant for several weeks. According to Detroit News, there is an internal shortage of engines.
As a result, Stellantis is sending all available volume to support production of the Ram 1500 at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant. The Warren Plant will shut down on April 14, 2025. If things go according to plan, then it will reopen and resume normal production in early May.
Both the Ram truck and Jeep Grand Wagoneer rely on the new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 Hurricane engine. Stellantis is sending more units to the truck plant as the Grand Wagoneer and other SUVs struggle.
But Stellantis shared that the shortage started before Trump’s tariffs were put into action. Pausing production means less inventory will be available, so I don’t expect sales to rebound quickly.
Also, pausing production means that roughly 1,000 workers will be temporarily laid off. Several hundred workers who repair Ram trucks from Sterling Heights will temporarily be moved to other plant areas.
