Is going down with the ship still the honorable thing to do? I’m asking for Stellantis because it has been going under water for quite some time now. Cutting Jeep and Ram production hasn’t exactly paid off.

Stellantis faces more sales declines

Stellantis shipments dropped by 9% due to lower production of Jeep and Ram models in North America. There were 82,000 fewer models shipped compared to the same period in 2024, which represents a 20% decline.

According to Detroit News, extended factory downtime contributed to the decline. But the company was preparing to ramp up production of refreshed Ram heavy duty trucks for 2025.

During the first quarter of 2025, sales in the United States dropped by 12%. This sales drop occurred during a weak performance among the commercial vehicle segment.

However, the automaker remains in good spirits as sales seemed to tick upward toward the end of the quarter. This momentum may have been disrupted at the beginning of the second quarter, though.

Production was paused in Mexico and Canada due to new 25% tariffs on auto imports. Factories that build the Jeep Compass and Chrysler Pacifica have been idled.

The new inline-six Hurricane engine is also made in Mexico. However, American plants that build the beloved HEMI V8 engines might restart production soon.

Plus, new models are arriving to replace discontinued options. For example, the Jeep Renegade was discontinued, but now the Jeep Wagoneer S is here.

However, I feel like making more affordable gas-powered models instead of luxury-priced electric vehicles could be more beneficial. But Stellantis doesn’t even know who this little nerd is, it doesn’t listen to me.
