Former State Farm employee is getting a $30k settlement after the company blacklisted her for raising discrimination concerns
Many people count on State Farm for their auto insurance. After all, it is among the most trusted car insurance companies on the market. However, State Farm has a bit of controversy on its hands following an employment dispute. Now, the company has settled and faces a fine after discrimination concerns were raised, and it essentially blacklisted a former employee.
State Farm provides solid auto insurance, but may have been unfair to this employee
State Farm is easily one of the most popular options for auto insurance. However, according to The Dallas Morning News, the car insurance company has now settled with a former employee after she reported her concerns to the Department of Justice.
This comes after State Farm fired her for raising concerns about discrimination from the company. Specifically, there was a dispute over her permanent resident card. The report says that her resident card had expired. However, she had a notice attached from the Department of Homeland Security that extended it. Sadly, State Farm still rejected the card despite the official notice.
Not only did the State Farm auto insurance company fire her, but the staff also added her name to a “do not hire” list after she raised the issue.
Because of the situation, the State Farm auto insurance company has to pay up. First, it owes the United States Treasury $4,600 in civil fines. Additionally, State Farm owes the former employee more than $30,000 for back pay. The company also has to train its employees on anti-discrimination policies to avoid situations like this in the future.
Of course, it should be remembered that this more than likely happened due to a few employees and not the company as a whole. State Farm remains one of the best sources of protection for your vehicle.
