Squad cars are among the most critical resources for police officers. Naturally, this means finding the best options is paramount for fighting crime. Nowadays, more precincts are learning that all-electric cars can also make for solid patrol vehicles. Tesla vehicles are in use, but some California departments looking for a new car are testing the Lucid Air. This isn’t one of the most popular vehicles, but it has much to offer.

FInding good squad cars matters to police departments, and all-electric options could be viable offerings

All-electric cars have much to offer people interested in the efficiency they allow for. Because of this, it only makes sense that some police departments would consider them for their squad cars. Now, according to Teslarati, some California departments are testing the vehicles. Of course, this doesn’t mean they will adopt them, but it shows they are taking the decision seriously.

The Lucid Motors official Twitter account recently confirmed that its car, the Lucid Air, could soon be one of the newest squad cars. Specifically, it’s currently undergoing tests for the California Highway Patrol. Of course, the version they are testing is modified and similar to other police cars in California.

As mentioned, other police departments are using all-electric cars as quad options. However, Tesla’s options haven’t been held in the best regard. For example, the Menlo Park Police Department recently began using the Tesla Model Y. However, they have a ton of complaints about the vehicles. Specifically, they have constraints related to their size, and some of the advanced technology gets in the way of police work.

Of course, the Lucid Air sedan happens to be one of the best all-electric cars on the market. The Lucid Motors post on Twitter specifically highlights how its cargo capacity, range, and performance make it a solid option for a police car. Still, they could be testing several options as squad cars.
