In a shocking incident in South Carolina, a teenager was involved in a collision with a school bus. However, the crash didn’t happen until after the young joyrider attempted to give the cops the slip in a car chase. Worse yet, the teen and an even younger teenager were reportedly armed with a machine gun.

A 19-year-old teen from South Carolina led police on a chase that culminated with a school bus crash and a confiscated ‘machine gun’

Law enforcement officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Chester, South Carolina. However, the mysterious car refused to relent, prompting police to give chase.

South Carolina authorities identified the young runaway driver as 19-year-old Matthew Cunningham. Cunningham fled from the police, leading pursuing officers to an intersection in Eureka Mill.

Unfortunately, the chase proved too much for the teen. He crashed into a school bus at a nearby intersection. Authorities report that two adults and one child were on the school bus at the time of the collision.

Law enforcement caught up with the young driver moments after the crash. They arrested Cunningham and charged him with multiple crimes. Most notably, police charged Cunningham with a failure to stop offense and child endangerment. However, Cunningham wasn’t alone in the car.

A 16-year-old was riding in the car along with Cunningham. Worse yet, the young passenger had a “machine gun” in their possession. The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice petitioned for charges related to the illegal firearm.

Now, dear reader, the term “machine gun” is a bit of a catch-all nowadays. For the most part, the term is oft used to describe anything that goes “bang, bang, bang, bang” instead of “bang, bang.”

While authorities didn’t describe the firearm, the petition for charges named “possession of a handgun by a person under 18 years old.” Consequently, if the “machine gun” and the aforementioned handgun are one and the same, it’s more likely that the 16-year-old passenger had an automatic weapon rather than a magazine-fed or belt-fed machine gun.
