For the first time in years, the best-selling mid-size truck took a tumble. The Toyota Tacoma has been the leader in its class for nearly a decade, with increasing sales. However, in 2024, the Tacoma started to slip with declining sales.

The best-selling mid-size truck facing declining sales

In a shocking turn of events, the best-selling mid-size truck has a massive sales decline on its hands. The Toyota Tacoma started to slide backward in 2024.

According to Pickup Truck Talk, the Toyota Tacoma sold 234,768 trucks in 2023, which is pretty impressive. But in 2024, that figure dropped to 192,813. It has a year-over-year sales decrease of 17.9 percent.

But it did finish the year with a nice uptick. During the fourth quarter of 2023, the Tacoma moved 55,087 models and during the fourth quarter of 2024, it moved 66,008 units for a 19.8 percent sales increase.

The only other mid-size trucks to face a sales decline in 2024 include the Jeep Gladiator and Honda Ridgeline.

While the Ridgeline finished 2024 with 45,421 sales, it had a 12.7 percent sales decrease. Then the Gladiator only sold 42.123 models in 2024 for a year-over-year sales decrease of 23.7 percent.

The Chevrolet Colorado jumped past the Ranger to become the second best selling truck. It sold 71,081 models in 2023 and 98,012 models in 2024 for a massive 37.9 percent sales increase.

Also, the Ford Ranger sold 32,334 models in 2023 and 46,205 trucks in 2024 for a 42.9 sales increase.

So, despite getting hammered with a massive sales decline, the Toyota Tacoma isn’t nervous. It’s too far ahead of the pack for rivals to catch up. But if this trend continues, it might be in trouble.
