Rivian thinks you’re ready to swap your gas-powered pickup truck for a price-cut R1T
Rivian really wants you to ditch your internal combustion engine (ICE) or hybrid vehicle. So much so, that they’re offering to pay you to make the swap. Still, is it enough to prompt gas-powered pickup truck fans to change things up?
Rivian is offering a $3,000 ‘All-Electric Upgrade Offer’ to prompt would-be buyers to ditch their ICE trucks for an R1T or R1S
Throughout November, Rivian wants to give you the little push you need to become an electric vehicle (EV) owner. The “All-Electric Upgrade Offer” targets current ICE and hybrid vehicle owners. However, to qualify for the incentive, American and Canadian owners must “provide verification of current ownership or lease of a hybrid or ICE vehicle when purchasing a qualifying new Rivian vehicle.”
According to the electric automaker’s All-Electric Upgrade Offer page, Rivian says “eligible purchasers/lessees” can receive a $3,000 (CAD 4,100) discount. Although would-be buyers must prove that they drive a hybrid or ICE vehicle, a trade-in isn’t necessary. Further, the incentive applies to new 2025-model R1S SUVs and R1T pickup trucks, with a few caveats.
For starters, while the discount covers new Dual Max, Dual Large, and Tri Max configurations, it excludes custom builds, pre-owned, and demo models. What’s more, interested EV buyers must make their purchase before November 30th, 2024. Should a buyer take advantage of the discount, Rivian says customers will take delivery of their new 2025 R1S or R1T “on or before December 31, 2024.
Model | Starting price (before discount) |
R1T | $71,700 |
R1S | $77,700 |
While a $3,000 incentive isn’t likely enough to net shift car buyers from other segments or price points. However, the discount might be more than enough to prompt fence-sitting EV segment buyers to make a move on a 2025-model R1T pickup truck or R1S EV SUV before the year’s end.
