[Watch] Ring camera catches out-of-control Toyota Camry narrowly missing Cali pedestrian
“I’m, like, still tingling.” Ralph Macia could hardly believe his luck. He was on his morning walk last week in Novato, California. In the middle of crossing San Marin Drive, the local caught something out of the corner of his eye. He instinctively jumped forward, arching his back. A speeding Toyota Camry sedan drifted sideways past him, narrowly missing the pedestrian at a clipping rate. The car flew through the cross street and into a front yard. A homeowner’s Ring camera caught the whole thing. You can watch it below.
“I was at my computer getting ready to send an email, then it was like a crash. It sounded like a crash,” Dot Spaet told ABC News. It was her front yard where the Camry landed. There were two people inside the vehicle. Spaet and her partner called 911. Another bystander heard the crash from a few blocks away.
Novato police said the driver experienced a medical emergency before the crash. Both the driver and the other occupant were taken to the hospital. While they suffered injuries from the crash, authorities say they should both survive.
The quick-moving pedestrian credits personal training for his quick response to the approaching sedan. “The reaction is from going to the gym and doing crossovers with a trainer,” Macia said.
Curious, I looked up what a “crossover” is, since I hadn’t heard of that exercise. After researching, though, unless the trainer used their own term for a particular movement, I think the Californian could be referring to either cable machine work or cross-training in general.
In any case, the guy’s half lucky duck, half genius for staying fit. “Motion is lotion,” as they say.
