Gun-toting rideshare drivers could soon be an option for people in Texas, thanks to a new app
Many people worldwide rely on Uber and Lyft drivers to get around. This is especially the case as personal vehicle prices continue to rise. Now, there’s a small ride-share company that plans to open up shop in Texas. However, they allow their drivers to have guns on their person.
Move over Uber drivers, there’s a new option coming to Texas
Uber and Lyft drivers are popular options for people who use ride-share apps. However, other options aren’t as known. One of those less-known ride-share apps is called BlackWolf, and it’s currently available in a handful of cities across the U.S. Now, according to Chiron, the company has plans to expand to the great state of Texas. Specifically, there are plans to hire drivers in Dallas, Houston, and Austin.
So, how are BlackWolf drivers different from the ones on the Uber and Lyft applications? According to the report, the ride-share company seeks people with backgrounds in law enforcement or the military. Additionally, BlackWolf allows potential passengers to select drivers armed with guns. This means the drivers will need a permit to carry firearms and the ability to pass the necessary background checks.
Kerry KingBrown, who has 19 years of experience in the private security industry, founded BlackWolf. Regarding the reasoning behind the service, he said, “The idea came from one of my clients that I was transporting; she was caught in human trafficking for about three years…she gave me the idea and said you need to create something, some type of transportation for people like me and my daughter.”
Of course, BlackWolf is still fairly new. The company launched in 2023 out of Atlanta, Georgia, and the application has more than 300,000 downloads. Naturally, the platform has significantly fewer drivers than Uber and Lyft, but it seems to be growing.
KingBrown also said, “We’ve all used rideshare and we’re not new to what I saw were the deficiencies. I wanted to create something for people like myself, for people like my past clients, but I wanted to make it more about them.” He goes on, “I want them to feel comfortable. I want them to have peace of mind.”
