Police officers in North Carolina pursued a pickup truck until it crashed into a lake. Then they were shocked as the driver never surfaced. Diving teams searched for a body, but think he must have gotten away.

Police chase ends with a truck in the lake as the driver goes missing

A police deputy with the Durham County Sheriff’s Officer tried to stop a truck around 2 AM. He reported that the driver was being careless and reckless near Geer Street and U.S.Highway 70.

But the driver didn’t stop, so a police chase ensued. Officers followed the vehicle for six miles, onto a dirt road near Falls Lake. The truck ended up completely submerged in the water. Police officers could only see the top of the cab.

They got a dive team to rescue the driver as needed. However, the divers said they couldn’t find anything. The team removed debris from the back seat and checked all four corners of the cabin. They reached the floor boards, but couldn’t find anything.

According to WRAL, a tow truck was brought in to pull the vehicle out of the water. It was removed from the lake around 6 AM. But officers are still searching for the driver.

They believe the driver escaped either before or after the truck crashed into the lake. Jumping out would probably be much easier than trying to escape while the vehicle was sinking.

In January, a similar incident occurred as officers pursued a stolen vehicle. The driver, Jose Escobar crashed the stolen vehicle into a pond and died. Hopefully, the missing driver is safe and unharmed.
