Budget friendly airline is suing a passenger for $15k after their behavior caused an overnight delay
Millions of people are plane passengers each year. Sadly, some travelers display disruptive behavior either on the airplane or at the airport. This happened recently on a flight, and now the Ireland-based airline has sued a plane passenger for a large sum of money for costs related to turning the plane around.
It’s not usually the case that the plane passenger is sued by the airline
According to Reuters, Ryanair has filed a lawsuit against a plane passenger. Apparently, this is coming after a flight that took place on April 9th included a person who displayed “inexcusable behaviour.” Things got so bad on the flight that they had to divert to Porto, Portugal. Initially, the people who decided to travel with the airline were going to the island of Lanzarote. Notably, the flight was delayed overnight.
The airline is suing the plane passenger for a hefty $15,000 euros, which translates to $15,500 in US dollars. Some may feel this is an excessive amount, but it’s important to remember that the airline incurred costs during the delay. They had to pay for accommodations, passenger expenses, and landing costs. Of course, this is all due to a passenger being unruly.
The airline didn’t say what the plane passenger did while flying on their aircraft. However, they did say that the person was being disruptive to other passengers. Naturally, this is never okay for people who have paid to travel. One spokesperson said to Business Insider, “It is unacceptable that passengers — many of whom are heading away with family or friends to enjoy a relaxing summer holiday — are suffering unnecessary disruption and reduced holiday time as a result of one unruly passenger’s behavior.”
