Nissan driver learned the drawback of cars with CVTs after getting a $700 quote for service
People on the market for the best new or used cars have several options. One of the choices the average buyer doesn’t usually consider is the type of transmission the car has. Many cars, especially Nissan vehicles, will have a CVT instead of a traditional automatic. Recently, one Nissan driver got quotes from multiple auto mechanics and learned the hard way how expensive maintenance can be for a continuously variable transmission.
Cars with a CVT are perfectly fine for many, but they can be expensive for auto mechanics to fix
A TikTok user named Thomas recently took to the platform to discuss what dealership auto mechanics charge to service cars with a CVT. The caption of his video reads, “I just think that’s wild to have over $300 price difference.”
In the video, the man is sitting behind the wheel of his Nissan, but he doesn’t share which model he owns. He begins his video by saying, “Well, I guess there’s a reason they call them the stealership.” The man then reveals that he called the dealership to inquire about the price of having his transmission serviced. They told him it would be $399, but he had previously learned that the cost of the materials to do the job would only be $306.
The Nissan driver continues his video about cars with a CVT. He says once at the dealership, he learned it would cost $799 for the service. The man decided to service the transmission himself because of the drastic difference in labor costs for Nissan vehicles with a CVT. Of course, most people aren’t mechanically inclined enough to service a transmission. This is why understanding what components a car has before buying is paramount.
Regarding the price difference, the average cost to service a car with a CVT ranges from $350 to $400. However, the driver’s trip to a dealership may have impacted the price. This is also why it’s important to find auto mechanics that you trust regarding service and pricing.
