Many automakers operate manufacturing plants in the United States, including international badges like BMW, Honda, and Toyota. However, stateside assembly lines don’t mean a majority of the parts in a vehicle are sourced from the United States and Canada. That said, the NHTSA’s data suggests that Tesla EVs and Honda pickup trucks make up the most American-made vehicles on the road.

Tesla and Honda have some of the most North American-made vehicles on the market, more so than Ford and Chevrolet

Tesla makes a handful of the most American-made vehicles on sale today, with the Model 3 Long Range tying for the top spot. The EV automaker sources 75% of the parts that go into the Model 3 Long Range from North America. Below the Model 3 Long Range, the thrust-happy Model 3 Performance and Model Y still manage to source 70% of their components from North America, including up to 25% Mexican parts.

You might not expect a Japanese automaker like Honda to tie with some of Tesla’s most American-made vehicles. However, the NHTSA says the Honda Ridgeline AWD TrailSport is 75% North American parts, just like the Tesla Model 3 Long Range. In addition to all the North American componentry, the Ridgeline pickup truck rolls off the line at Honda’s Lincoln, Alabama plant.

Like the Model 3, a trim change lowers the ratio of American-made parts to internationally-sourced components. Specifically, the Honda Ridgeline AWD gets 70% of its parts from North America, tying it with the Tesla Model Y, Honda Pilot, and Acura MDX.

On the other hand, some of the popular models from legacy American automakers are made of fewer North American components. For instance, while the eternally popular Ford F-150 is a product of Michigan and Missouri, the NHTSA reports that the trucks are 45% North American parts. Similarly, the hulking, crab-walking GMC Hummer EV is 36% American parts, with an additional 30% of components from South Korea.
