[Video] Michigan Uber driver injures 3 people after speeding on the shoulder and crashing
When you get into a rideshare, you expect a few things. At the very least, you expect to get to your destination safely and without too much delay. Unfortunately for three people in Michigan, an Uber driver didn’t get the memo.
An Uber driver in a Chevrolet Bolt crashed into a Ford Taurus and an Alfa Romeo Stelvio after speeding on the shoulder
Traffic makes people do crazy things. Drivers lose their focus, get impatient, and boom: disaster. It’s the sort of disaster like a three-vehicle crash that happened yesterday in Macomb Township, Michigan. A Chevrolet Bolt EV slammed into the side of a turning Ford Taurus at around 2:38 p.m., sending the wounded Ford sedan into a white Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
Local News 4 Detroit reported that the white Chevrolet EV was speeding on the right-side shoulder when it T-boned a light-green Ford Taurus as it turned into a parking lot. A 37-year-old Uber driver with a passenger were the Bolt EV’s occupants. The impact of the Bolt EV slamming into the Taurus sent it into an Alfa Romeo SUV. All three vehicles stopped in the grass next to the road before first responders arrived at the scene.
Emergency medical services (EMS) took both the Uber driver and the passenger to a local hospital with minor injuries. The violent hit did, however, leave the Ford Taurus driver in critical condition. A glimpse at the wrecked Taurus confirms that the Ford sedan took much of the hit on the driver’s side. Although the Ford’s damage extended across the entire length of the vehicle. First responders took the injured Taurus driver to a hospital as well.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio driver, on the other hand, didn’t sustain any injuries in the crash. Part of the Alfa Romeo SUV’s survivability in the crash is undoubtedly the vehicle’s weight. At just over 4,000 lbs, the Stelvio outweighs the older Taurus by well over 500 lbs.
