With bigger trucks, you can carry more cargo. This is especially true if you drive a semi-truck. However, not every trucker uses their rigs to transport essential items. Some drivers, like one recently arrested in Michigan, use them to carry tons of cocaine and other drugs.

$1.5 million worth of cocaine found in a semi-truck

What started as a routine traffic stop in Michigan quickly turned into a massive drug bust as police officers found $1.5 million worth of cocaine hidden in a semi-truck. The driver had over 100 lbs of cocaine onboard.

Someone snitched on the operation and provided officers with a tip about drugs being transported on Interstate 94 through Berrien County.

So police officers kept an eye out for the suspected vehicles and conducted a traffic stop once they spotted the Freightliner tractor-trailer. Then they found the drugs with the help of Michigan State Police.

The driver was identified as Sukhraj Singh. He is a 22-year-old from Canada. According to WBST, he is currently in custody in the Berrien County jail to await charges.

This is one of the latest drug busts related to trucks smuggling drugs across the Canadian border. It seems like this is becoming a growing trend.

In October, Saint Clair County Sheriff’s deputies found over 370 lbs of cocaine, or $16.5 million worth,  from a semi-truck trailer in Port Huron. The driver, Sukjindr Singh, was apprehended after being pulled over across the St. Clair River in Sarnia.

Plus, in September, state troopers found roughly 300 lbs of cocaine in a tractor-trailer during a traffic stop on I-94, near Chesterton. Naseen Chisty was about an hour outside of Chicago when he was pulled over.

Another Canadian trucker, Juli Sabosan Sathiaseelan, was caught on Blue Water Bridge with 266 lbs of cocaine. U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) found the hidden drugs.
