Jenna, a fashion TikToker (@jennajennajennaaaaaaa), took a break from posting “regular girl” lifestyle videos to recount a recent incident involving a skeevy mechanic trying to get more money out of her.

Normally, she told her nearly 30,000 followers, she takes her car to her regular mechanic who’s trustworthy. With his schedule booked solid and her need for tires urgent, she took her car to a different tire shop.

“I took my car in for tires sometime last year, and it was a place I wouldn’t normally go to, but they had cheap tires and I needed cheap tires,” said Jenna. While she was there, she mentioned her check engine light was on. After they scanned her car, they came back with bad news.

“They basically said, like, that my car needed somewhere between $1,600 and $2,300 worth of work done on it.”

She skipped the extra work, bought the tires, and planned to take it to her trusted mechanic later. Stressed by her car’s needs, Jenna and her sister shared her car to spare Jenna’s.

Her trusted mechanic said her car didn’t need those repairs

While her sister was letting her drive her car, she carved time out of her schedule to take her car to her normal mechanic. She stressed over the cost it was going to incur.

“I trust him a lot more, but I still thought it was going to be like, $1,500 minimum, you know? But I got it in there,” she said.

After the car had been in his care for a while, she got a call with a quote for the repairs.

“I called to check on the progress, and he said, ‘It’s done, and the total is going to be 4-65-0-1,'” she said. “I’ve been so stressed about this, that I immediately thought he meant $4,650.10, and I was like, ‘Bro, the car isn’t even worth $4,600, are you insane?’ and then he said the figure again, and I realized he meant $465.01.”

The cost difference relieved her so much that she was almost in tears.

“I just want to say, go to mechanics you trust, even if they’re slower,” she said. “Don’t go to these chain places for work, because I swear, they’re trained to scam you.”
