Car theft is one of the most widespread crimes. However, it usually involves traditional passenger vehicles and not school buses. Still, this is what happened in Louisiana recently when a man escaped from a mental health facility and caused multiple car wrecks. Sadly, there were injuries, and the man is now facing charges for his actions.

He committed car theft on a school bus and caused multiple car wrecks

According to KLFY, police officers received a call about a serious car accident on December 15th at around 6:40 pm. They also learned that the incident involved the car theft of a school bus by a person who had escaped from a Lafayette mental health facility. This comes after the police had been alerted that the man, Marion Baker, 26, had escaped from the facility on foot. Apparently, he stole the school bus sometime after.

According to the report, after committing car theft, Marion drove the school bus into oncoming traffic. Sadly, this caused four car wrecks, and several people on the scene sustained injuries from the massive collision. He then committed car theft again by taking the truck of a bystander and driving off. Notably, the bystander had stopped their vehicle in order to help with the damage Marion had caused.

From there, police officers located the car theft suspect in Rayne, Louisiana. Now, they are holding him at the Lafayette Parish Jail without bail. It’s unclear what charges the man will face or why he had been transported to the mental health facility in the first place.
