On Sunday, January 19, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) received a call regarding gunshots in an apartment complex. While police were headed to the scene, a 911 dispatcher got a call from a man who said a friend told him he just shot his girlfriend.

The caller gave police a description of the shooter and the vehicle he’d be driving. Police located the suspect quickly and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect fled. Authorities engaged in the pursuit, and the suspect crashed into another vehicle in a nearby intersection.

Officers apprehended the shooter and confirmed the presence of a deceased female strapped into the passenger’s seat. The shooter was taken into custody, though the victim was not identified, reported 8 News Now.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the shooting, though police ask the public to help fill in the gaps. Officers encourage viewers to call with any details that could help solve the case.

Viewers took the shooting as a learning opportunity for those in abusive relationships

No one knows the history of the relationship between the shooter and the victim, but most assume it was abusive. Police believe the same. Therefore, viewers offered their condolences and advice for those who may be in a dark place.

“Please, please, please, get out of bad relationships!” a viewer wrote. “I’m praying for her family and friends. It’s heartbreaking.”

Another wrote they couldn’t believe that violence was the shooter’s answer.

“Unbelievable, I can’t understand how he was inspired to shoot her after an argument,” they wrote. “I never want to resort to violence after a fight or a kerfuffle with a loved one.”

Someone else said prison, even if he were sentenced to life, wouldn’t be bad enough.

“Prison isn’t enough for people who kill out of anger,” they said.
