People with an immature sense of humor have finally caused the Kum & Go gas station to break. I enjoy PG-13 humor from Family Guy or any Will Ferrell movie. But this business can’t take it anymore and is getting a more mature name.

Kum & Go gas stations rebrand as Maverik

The name of the Kum & Go gas station has already come and now it’s gone. The current owners purchased the entire chain in 2023 and plans to update each one with a more mature name.

Each store will now be called ‘Maverik’. There are 57 stores in Missouri, where the rebranding process is scheduled to begin in March. The project should be completed by 2025. Drivers can expect brief store closures as signage is changed inside and out at each store.

According to Yahoo, the store got its name by deciding to use the last initials of its original owners. This decision was made in 1975 to honor them and promote its speedy services.

But when Johnny Knoxville wore a Kum & Go t-shirt in a 2006 film, the stores gained a lot of popularity. People began making fun of the name with a sexual innuendo and they haven’t stopped.

However, this attracted drivers from all over as the gas station exploded. It has 400 locations in 13 states across the Midwest and South.

With Maverik’s acquisition, there are about 800 locations. It’s the 12th largest convenience store and gas station chain in the United States.

Some people may agree that Kum & Go is more fun. I feel like fewer people will be inclined to buy merchandise that says ‘Maverik’ on it instead.
