Jeff Bezos is building an electric truck that’s actually affordable
It’s like billionaires all have to do the same thing. If they aren’t going to space then they’re building electric trucks. Jeff Bezos is launching a new auto brand to battle Tesla. However, at least the truck he’s building will be affordable.
Jeff Bezos is building an affordable electric truck
In the near future, you might be able to order an affordable electric truck from Amazon. Jeff Bezos has decided to enter the electric vehicle market with a Michigan-based startup known as Slate Auto.
According to Road and Track, the company is starting with a two-seat electric truck that starts at $25,000. That’s cheaper than the Ford Maverick, which has an MSRP of $26,995. The massive Tesla Cybertruck starts at $79,990.
It’s also a pretty good idea. People have been missing tiny trucks like the two-door Ford Ranger. However, I recommend making gas and hybrid powertrains available as well.
Bezos isn’t making a cold start to the industry. He has invested over $1.3 billion in Rivian. It’s contracted to supply Amazon with electric delivery vans. On that note, the Rivian R1T truck starts at $71,700.
Slate Auto was founded in 2022 with the help of another Bezos investment in a company known as Re:Build Manufacturing. It has been working away under the radar and hiring hundreds of people around Detroit.
Employees from Stellantis, Fisker, Canoo, Ford, General Motors, and Harley Davidson have joined the company.
Information about the new electric truck remains scarce. It could enter production by 2026 and is inspired by the Volkswagen Beetle and Ford Model T. So, it’s hard to imagine!
