A woman sat inside TOGO’s Sandwiches in Beaverton, just east of Oregon Route 217 near downtown Portland. The local establishment opened in 1971, serving hot and cold sandwiches. Over the weekend, the customer entered the shop and sat down. She got up from her chair close to 1:00 pm. Little did she know she’d narrowly miss a 2003 Honda Accord crashing straight into the building.

Mere seconds after getting up, the silver Honda Accord, driven by a 65-year-old man, blasted through the sandwich shop, sending glass flying and crushing wooden wall sections inward.

Speaking of blasted, the driver seemed very much under the influence. Beaverton police didn’t provide many details, like whether the motorist had been celebrating St. Patty’s Day before getting behind the wheel. They arrested the 65-year-old Honda Accord driver and charged him with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII), Reckless Driving, two counts of Reckless Endangering, and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree.

Yesterday, TOGO’s Beaverton announced its reopening on Facebook:

“Thank you to the first responders and our community for your support during the recent accident at our location yesterday. We’ve taken all necessary safety measures and are ready to welcome you back. Our hours today are 1PM to 7:30PM, with regular hours resuming tomorrow. See you soon!”

Looking at the car accident photo, the Honda Accord faired pretty well, too. Thankfully, there were no injuries.
