[Watch] Helmet cam captures road rager knocking biker off and intentionally dragging him under a car
A Riverside, California, motorcyclist was heading home when he encountered an absent-minded driver in a black Nissan. As the biker pulled up to a stoplight, the Nissan suddenly veered in front of him, forcing him to make evasive maneuvers to avoid being struck.
The motorcyclist, who opted to remain nameless, turned around and shook his head at the driver to express his anger, shock, and fear. His helmet-mounted camera captured the whole thing.
“So I filtered to the front, and yeah I got mad, I’m shaking my head, and I looked back, and I see him roll down the window.. and I see him saying something. So I get off the bike and say, ‘What’s going on, what’s your issue?'” he told ABC7.
“And he says, ‘Why are you shaking your head at me?’ and I said ‘it’s because you cut over as I was coming up,’ so he says ‘well you’re behind me, I’m first,’ and I said ‘that’s not how it works, if you’re that upset about that, go seek therapy.'”
The motorcyclist moved on, but the driver didn’t
After the confrontation, the biker drove ahead to the next red light. He figured it was the last time he’d ever see the black Nissan again.
Except it wasn’t. As the motorcyclist waited for the next light to turn green, he turned around to see the Nissan speeding towards him.
“I look back, just in time to see the front end of his car squeezing between both cars, he rear-ends me, knocks me off the bike, and then floors it over me,” the biker said. “He dragged me. I felt like he was stepping on the gas. I’m not sure how fast he was going. When we finally stopped, I got up and ran to the sidewalk, and he fled the scene.”
He’d been riding motorcycles for years—but this was the first time he’d experienced anything like this.
“It was a few seconds. It felt like forever. I started slipping, and I could see the undercarriage of the car… and I went from being mad to being scared,” he said.
Guilt caught up with the Nissan driver
A few hours after the incident happened, the driver of the black Nissan, Gary Delandro, turned himself in. The judge who evaluated the case (and the biker’s footage) didn’t show any mercy. Delandro was apprehended and charged with attempted murder.
The judge set Delandro’s bail to $1 million. The motorcyclist suffered burn injuries on his back and a deep cut below his knee. His backpack and motorcycle jacket were shredded.
He’s recovering, and plans to get back on his bike as soon as he’s cleared.
