If You Don’t Have an Electric Mower, Do You Even Lawn Care, Bro?
This is a tale of struggle, family, failure, and lawn care. It’s time to visit the modern day and age with an electric lawnmower. There are so many advantages against traditional gas-powered lawnmowers to consider.
Electric lawnmower benefits you need to know about
Y’all, I must admit that I feel old. My Toro lawnmower died, but I thought it was only two years old. Turns out, I’ve had it for five years. Also, switching to an electric lawnmower changed my life. I was behind on the trend.
So, my Toro mower won’t start. Pulling the cord shows no signs of life. The old spark plug was covered in black debris, and the new one I installed didn’t spark. I changed the gas in it as well.
I checked the air filter, and it’s fine. The next steps involve cleaning the carburetor or spraying starter fluid in it to see if the mower will start. But it could have a fuel blockage somewhere. My Dad took a look and had no idea what was up. He’s not a mower expert either.
It took a few days to attempt to diagnose my lawnmower and the grass kept getting taller, making my dog (a spoiled beagle) sad.
So, I decided to buy a new one. After looking at different stores and brands, my cheapest options were to go with the same gas-powered mower for $400 or an electric one for $450.
Those prices are for brands I’ve actually heard of before, like Toro, Stihl, Hond, Black and Decker, and Ryobi. So, I spent an extra $50 to try something new.
It’s important to note that I went with a cordless mower. Can you imagine tiring to mow with a lawn mower that plugs in? My gosh, you would have to keep moving the cord to avoid running over it.
I was sad when I first got my electric mower because I had to charge it first. I was ready to tackle the lawn. Then it rained! So, I had wet grass nearly up to my knees.

But after a few hours, I went out there to see what the Kobalt 40-volt could do. It’s a beast, it crews up tall, wet grass like the Cookie Monster with a bag of Oreos.
All you have to do to start it is press a button and pull a level back. This made it easier to take breaks because I wasn’t avoiding having to use a pull start to get things going again.
Electric lawnmowers have a battery life of about 50 to 90 minutes. Mine has up to an hour of range. I still had over 50% of my charge left after spending an hour in my back year, though.
With my old mower, if I let the grass get out of control, it would stall every five minutes due to a clogged blade. Then I would have to unplug the spark plug to safely clear debris. It was turning my love of lawn care into hate.
Also, the electric mower is incredibly quiet. I couldn’t hear music with my AirPods with the old Toro. I feel like I’m less subjected to hearing damage now.
Last but not least, I didn’t have to think about fluids. There was no gas or oil to add, meaning you don’t end up smelling like fuel. You just smell like grass and sweat, which could make a beneficial difference.
Before y’all get upset and claim that Kobalt paid me to write this, I WISH. Nothing but your support is all I get. This was a deeply personal experience.
