Doug DeMuro, an esteemed automotive journalist, car reviewer, and now the owner of Cars & Bids, recently auctioned off a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series. However, it wasn’t just any Cybertruck. The truck features real 24-karat gold plating. $60,000 worth of gold covers the EV.

It also came with two motors, all-wheel drive, and over 600 horsepower. Despite its funky shape, the factory configuration means a range of 340 miles on a full charge and 11,000 lbs of towing capacity. The original owner, Ridge Wallet, had the Cybertruck painted gold by YouTuber JerryRigEverything.

The listing said he also placed “Ridge” and “24K Gold” decals on the truck’s exterior and interior, tinted the windows with a ceramic coating, and signed the frunk. Llumar full-body protection film shields the gold paint.

Beyond the configuration, the Cybertruck has appeared on Doug DeMuro’s YouTube channel, as well as TheStradman, Marques Brownlee, and JerryRigEverything.

It sold for over six figures and went to charity

After 22 bids, buyers drove the final selling price of the Cybertruck to $102,000. It sold on December 9 at 10:24 am PST. All proceeds went to JerryRigEverything’s 501(c)3, The Zack and Cambry Nelson Foundation.

The listing had 146,220 views before it was sold to a private party, and most commenters couldn’t believe how “low” the price was, considering how much it cost to paint it with real gold.

“That price seems low for how crazy this truck is,” wrote a commenter.

Another noted the price wasn’t that different from a stock Foundation Series truck.

“Imagine being the buyer of one of the other foundation series trucks that sold for similar money and noting you could have bought a GOLD-PLATED one for the same amount!” one commenter wrote.

Someone else said the final price barely covers the cost of the gold plates.

“At a June fold price of $2,300 per ounce and a $60,000 materials cost, and assuming the packaging and substrate costs are negligible, there might be 26 ounces of gold on this baby,” they wrote.
