On January 2, a San Antonio resident faced an all-too-common heartbreak. After finishing their shift, they discovered their bicycle—locked up with a Kryptonite lock—was gone. Their only transportation had been stolen.

“I got off work today, couldn’t see it, started bawling my eyes out,” the victim wrote in a Reddit post. Their workplace sat 3.5 miles from home, and they couldn’t afford another bike.

The post, titled “Do people still steal bicycles in 2025?” quickly gained traction on the San Antonio subreddit. Users chimed in with empathy, safety tips, and stories of their own losses. “People steal everything that isn’t bolted down,” one person said, recalling when their windshield wipers disappeared during a heatwave.

Others offered solutions. “Hey OP, I’ve got a spare bike you can have,” one commenter wrote. The original poster (OP) responded, “I’ll DM you.” Within an hour, the situation turned around.

“Got a bike, y’all,” the OP updated their post. “Many, many, many people offered to help, and I am really grateful.”

The stolen bike had been a gift from a friend who saw the OP’s transportation struggles after moving from France to Texas three months ago. OP reported that in France, bike thefts had been unheard of. “It just sucks to get your stuff stolen, regardless of the value,” they said.

But amidst the frustration, they found gratitude. “In order to have good, you need evil, you know? So to everybody that offered to help, a billion thanks.”

This story isn’t just about a stolen bike. It’s about a community rallying around a stranger. It’s about kindness shining brighter than theft. As one user put it, “This warms our heart when the San Antonio Reddit community comes together and helps a fellow human out.”

Whether through Reddit or other connections, these moments remind us of a simple truth: most people are good. For one Texan, that goodness turned a tough day into one they’ll never forget.
