General Motors recalls 887,000 trucks and issues stop-sale due to engine failure
Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation into General Motors trucks due to alleged reports of engine failure.
The investigation has confirmed that 877,000 trucks and SUVs are at risk of suddenly losing power, engine damage, and failure due to manufacturing defects. This increased the risk of injuries and accidents.
According to GM Authority, the connecting rod and/or crankshaft are to blame. Impacted models are equipped with the L68 6.2-liter V8 engine produced between 2021 and 2024.
- The following 2021 – 2024 vehicles are at risk:
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- Chevy Suburban
- Chevy Tahoe
- GMC Sierra 1500
- GMC Yukon/XL
- Cadillac Escalade/ESV
General Motors is working to provide a solution as fast as possible. Models at risk will be inspected for manufacturing defects. Vehicles that pass inspection will get an oil and filter change with 0W-40 Mobile 1 Supercar oil with an oil cap to specify the change.
It’s unclear what will happen to trucks that fail the inspection, but they might get a new engine. Current models equipped with these engines are under a stop-sale. They will not be sold if they fail the inspection.
