Most drivers use gas station pumps. However, people in Tennessee have concerns, as several of their most popular gas stations have advertisedly sold bad gas. In some cases, drivers got one type of fuel when they needed another. There were also instances of gas with water in it. Now, a new report says this issue is more widespread than some assumed. Because of this, people have more to worry about than cheap gas prices. 

Drivers must be cautious when using gas station pumps

Most people use gas station pumps multiple times a month without concern. However, according to Action News 5, this isn’t so much the case for drivers in Memphis, Tennessee. Many have reported issues with their fuel in the city so far this year, and it’s been a problem for years now. Regarding 2025, complaints have already been filed about 14 popular gas stations selling bad gas. Notably, the reports came after drivers experienced mechanical issues. 

The 14 stores with gas station pumps that sold bad fuel include:

  • Circle K – 4195 Hacks Cross Road
  • Tulip Food Mart – 3485 Park Avenue
  • Amoco  – 5521 Poplar Avenue
  • BP – 1723 Jackson Avenue
  • Raleigh Express – 3126 Raleigh-Millington Road
  • Hickory Food Mart – 3210 Hickory Hill Road
  • W Food Mart – 5190 Airways Boulevard
  • Thomas Express Inc. – 2864 Thomas Street
  • Lamar Texaco – 2306 Lamar Avenue
  • Kroger – 3860 Austin Peay Highway
  • Great Memphis One – 1243 Lamar Avenue

As mentioned, there has been an ongoing issue with gas station pumps in Memphis. Data from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture shows that almost 50 fuel stations have had adverse reports over the last two years. Some of the reports concern drivers getting the wrong fuel and others filling up with gas that had water in it. This means numerous drivers have had mechanical issues because of the fuel they received. Because of this, cheap gas prices are further down most people’s lists.
