Dodge isn’t the only automaker to make the transition to electric vehicles. However, it’s struggling more than others as fans push back against the Dodge Challenger EV. They’re buying older gas-powered models instead.

Gas-powered Dodge Challenger models are outselling the EV

It’s a bit surprising that the Dodge Challenger EV is off to a rough start. The Ford Mustang Mace-E isn’t facing the same amount of resistance. However, the gas-powered Mustang is still available.

As Stellantis bet on EVs to take off, it discontinued gas variants of the Challenger and Charger. This may have been a mistake as electric SUVs like the electric Daytona remain stagnant.

According to Super Car Blondie, older gas-powered models have been outselling the electric variants. During the first quarter of the year, 1,052 leftover gas-powered Charger models were sold. Also, the gas-powered Challenger sold 922 units.

Meanwhile the brand experienced a 49% sales decrease. The Dodge Challenger EV has been averaging about 22 sales per day. The EV Daytona has achieved roughly 1,947 sales.

The sales or lack thereof could cause Stellantis to switch gears. It might bring the gas-powered Charger back by the end of the year. The HEMI V8 engine was discontinued, but never truly died.

It lingers on in the Dodge Durango and Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392. Now it could return with a new Ram 1500 TRX as well.

Pricing could be another issue with the Daytona EV as well. The 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona starts at $61,590. Meanwhile, the 2023 Dodge Charger had an MSRP of $35,325.
