So you got your 2021 F-150 recall handled back in 2022 and thought you were good? Think again. Ford just issued a repeat recall because—get this—the software fix didn’t actually fix anything. Yeah, it’s that kind of week.

This latest Ford F-150 recall affects 567 trucks that already went under the knife once. The issue? A bug in the Powertrain Control Module software can cause the transmission to shift into neutral without warning. If that sounds familiar, it should. Ford recalled these same vehicles under campaign 22V-188. Now it’s back with a do-over: campaign 25S24.

The NHTSA warns that “an unexpected shift into neutral can cause a loss of drive power.” No power, no movement—possibly in the middle of traffic. “The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for low transmission fluid pressure may falsely activate,” causing the truck to go limp.

Ford says it’s not aware of any crashes or injuries. But the recall isn’t small potatoes. The affected F-150s were built between August 14 and December 13, 2021. Ford confirmed, “The remedy procedure for the prior recall may not have been properly completed on some vehicles.”

Ford’s glitch loop goes deeper than just one F-150 recall

This is far from Ford’s only software snafu. As I previously wrote, 2025 is shaping up to be a recall tsunami. Over 600,000 vehicles were affected by 24 recalls in the year’s first 12 weeks. Many were repeats. Many were for software updates that dealerships failed to correctly install.

Ford blamed the surge on broken tech. “The dealer tool did not provide detailed confirmation of the update status,” according to one filing. Translation: the system didn’t check if the software update actually installed.

Ford’s 2025 audit of past software recalls is still ongoing. As part of this process, it has already issued 18 repeat recalls. The Ford F-150 recall you’re reading about now is part of that broader pattern.

Ford’s trying to clean up the mess, promising this fix will actually work. But for F-150 owners stuck in recall limbo, it’s déjà vu with a side of frustration.
